Ward Police in Quy Nhon: Where to Register Temporary Residence (2026)
Which ward police covers your address in Quy Nhon after the July 2025 reorganisation, who has to declare you, how fast, and what to bring.
In short: every foreigner staying in Quy Nhon must be declared to the police of the ward where they sleep, immediately on arrival. Hotels do it for you. If you rent a house or apartment, your landlord or host must do it, online or at the ward police (Công an phường). Since 1 July 2025 Quy Nhon has five wards, so many old addresses now fall under a new ward name.
Quy Nhon's wards changed on 1 July 2025
Vietnam removed the district level of local government on 1 July 2025. Binh Dinh province merged into Gia Lai province, and the old wards of Quy Nhon were combined into five new wards that report directly to Gia Lai. Each new ward has its own police (Công an phường), and that is where temporary residence is handled.

Ward composition: Resolution 1664/NQ-UBTVQH15 of 16 June 2025, Article 1, clauses 102–106. The island commune of Nhon Chau was not merged and keeps its own commune police. Offices moved during the reorganisation and Google Maps still shows many old names, so check the address before you go.
Who has to declare you, and how fast
- Hotels, guesthouses and homestays declare you through the police's electronic system when you check in. You only hand over your passport.
- Rented house or apartment, or staying with friends or family: the landlord, owner or host is responsible. They can declare you through the electronic temporary residence system, or on the paper form NA17 (Phiếu khai báo tạm trú) at the ward police.
- Deadline: immediately on arrival. Circular 87/2026/TT-BCA, in force since 24 July 2026, replaced the old rule that allowed 12 hours.
What to bring to the ward police
If your host registers you in person, these are the documents ward police usually ask to see:
- Your passport, with the page showing your current visa, visa exemption stamp or e-visa entry stamp
- The completed NA17 form
- The host's ID card (CCCD)
- Proof of the right to use the property, such as the rental contract or ownership papers
Ask for a stamped copy or printout of the declaration. Immigration offices, employers and banks may ask for proof that your residence has been declared, for example for a work permit or a temporary residence card application.
After a visa run, register again
A visa run is a new entry into Vietnam, so when you come back to your home in Quy Nhon your host needs to declare you again with your new entry stamp or e-visa. Put it on your list for the evening you get back, together with checking the new entry stamp in your passport.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to register my temporary residence myself?
Usually not. The law puts the duty on whoever manages the place you stay: the hotel, guesthouse or homestay, or your landlord or host if you rent a private home. They declare you to the ward police. Your job is to give them your passport and make sure it happens.
How quickly must it be done?
Immediately after you arrive. Under Circular 87/2026/TT-BCA, in force since 24 July 2026, the declaration has to be made as soon as a foreigner arrives at the accommodation. Older guides mention a 12-hour window; that was the previous rule.
Which police station do I go to?
The police of the ward (phường) or commune (xã) where your accommodation is, not where you work. Since 1 July 2025 Quy Nhon has five wards: Quy Nhon, Quy Nhon Dong, Quy Nhon Tay, Quy Nhon Nam and Quy Nhon Bac. Use the table above to find yours.
My rental contract still says an old ward name like Tran Phu or Ghenh Rang. Is that a problem?
No. Old names were merged into the new wards on 1 July 2025. Find your old ward in the table to see which new ward, and which ward police, now covers your address.
Do I need to register again after a visa run?
Yes. Leaving Vietnam and coming back is a new entry, so your host declares you again when you return to your accommodation. The same applies if you move to a new address.
Is the declaration the same as a temporary residence card (TRC)?
No. The declaration simply records where you are staying. A temporary residence card (thẻ tạm trú) is a separate document issued by the immigration authorities to eligible foreigners, for example some workers, investors and family members. Applications for a TRC normally ask for proof that your residence has been declared.
