Laos Visa-Free Countries: The Official List
Which passports can enter Laos without a visa, and why it matters so much for the Bo Y – Phou Keua visa run from Quy Nhon.
Fifteen countries have a visa exemption with Laos for ordinary passports, for stays of 14 to 30 days. On the Bo Y route this is the key question, because the Lao side, Phou Keua, has no visa on arrival and does not accept the Lao e-visa.

Not on the list: the United States, United Kingdom, most EU countries (other than Luxembourg), Australia, New Zealand, Canada, India and China, among others. Some of these have exemptions for diplomatic or service passports only, which is a different category.
What this means for your visa run from Quy Nhon
- On the list? Bo Y is a simple run: you cross with your passport and come back on a Vietnam e-visa that names Bo Y as the entry gate.
- Not on the list? Either let us arrange your Lao visa before the trip (VND 1,400,000 per traveller), or take the Le Thanh route to Cambodia, where most nationalities can buy a visa on arrival.
Why not the Lao e-visa? The official Lao e-visa can only be used at designated ports, mainly airports, the Lao–Thai Friendship Bridges and Boten. Phou Keua is not one of them (laoevisa.gov.la).
